Looking for something to do with the kids or grandkids this Halloween that doesn’t involve a screen? On Saturday 31 October 2026, from 11am to 3pm, there’s a free, family-friendly tabletop games day at the Union Theatre, 65 Bridge Street, Lithgow. Our sister business Lithgeek runs the board games, there are learn-to-play Warhammer tables, and local game masters run tables for Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun and other role-playing games.

- Cost: Free. Tables, paints and miniatures are all provided.
- Who: Everyone. Children under 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Why this is a great day out for grandparents too
At MacMason we spend a lot of time teaching Lithgow’s seniors to use their iPhones, iPads and Macs. Technology is wonderful, but there’s nothing quite like sitting at a table and playing a game with your grandkids. Board games need no setup, no passwords and no updates. You just roll the dice and have a laugh.
A few ideas for the day:
- Paint a miniature together. It’s relaxing, it’s creative, and you’ll take home something you made side by side. The brushes and paints are supplied.
- Learn a new board game. The people running the tables will explain the rules, so nobody has to read the instruction booklet.
- Let the teenagers try Warhammer or D&D. These are social, creative hobbies that get young people talking, planning and problem-solving around a real table.
- Enter the Halloween painting contest. Entries are judged in age groups and displayed in the Lithgeek window at 85 Main Street for public voting.
Then stay for the Main Street Halloween Carnivale
The gaming day finishes at 3pm, just in time for the main event of the Lithgow Halloween festival, which Lithgow City Council funds and produces. The free Main Street Halloween Carnivale runs from 4pm to 9pm, with:
- a costume parade at 4pm from Eskbank Street to Sandford Avenue
- live music on the Main Stage in Cook Street Plaza, with costume awards at 6:30pm
- family rides (gold coin donation optional, with proceeds going to local youth services)
- face painting, animal encounters, a circus playspace and the Trick or Treat Trivia Trail
- food stalls, market stalls and Main Street shops
You’ll find the full schedule on the Lithgow Halloween 2026 program page. If anyone in your group needs accessibility information, read the festival’s access and inclusion page.

A bit of safety advice for Halloween
Busy community events are a great time to share photos, and also a time when scammers like to post fake event pages and “ticket” offers. This day costs nothing to attend. If you see anyone online asking you to pay to attend it, don’t. Our How to Avoid Scams class for seniors covers this and much more.
We hope to see you there! For anything Apple-related, MacMason runs tech classes for adults and seniors and Mac repairs from 85 Main Street, Lithgow. For the full gaming day details, see Lithgeek’s Halloween gaming day post.
